Project description

Study Planner is a focus-first planning system built to help students turn overwhelming syllabi into doable daily actions. Instead of “more features,” it prioritizes clarity, consistency, and momentum—so users spend less time planning and more time studying.

Timeline

3–5 weeks (research → flows → UI → prototype → iteration)

Background

Students don’t fail because they lack ambition—they fail because planning tools are either too rigid or too complex. The real problem is cognitive overload + inconsistent routines. Study Planner is designed to reduce mental effort and make progress feel achievable every day.

Process

Process

Process

I followed an end-to-end UX approach with a strong focus on decision friction and behavior change.

Research & Insights

Looked into common student pain points: procrastination loops, “too much to do” anxiety, poor time estimation, and lack of prioritization.

  • Key jobs-to-be-done:

    • “Tell me what to do next.”

    • “Help me start even when I’m low-energy.”

    • “Keep me on track without guilt.”

IA & User flows

Designed flows around core moments:

  • Setup (subjects, deadlines, exam schedule)

  • Planning (auto task breakdown)

  • Daily focus (Today view with 1–3 priorities)

  • Recovery (missed plan → smart reschedule)

Prototype testing & Iteration

Tested for:

  • Time-to-start a session

  • Comprehension of priorities

  • Reschedule experience after falling behind
Iterated on: “Today” page structure, microcopy, and recovery flow to reduce guilt and increase control.

Solution

Solution

Solution

Study Planner transforms big academic goals into a calm, guided workflow.

Smart task breakdown

Converts goals (e.g., “Complete Chapter 5”) into smaller steps with estimated time blocks and suggested sequence.

Focus-first Today view

A single screen that highlights:

  • Top priorities (1–3)

  • Time blocks

  • “Next best action” to reduce decision fatigue

Recovery and rescheduling

If a plan fails, the system helps users reset:

  • Auto reschedule based on remaining days

  • “Minimum effort plan” to keep momentum

  • No guilt language—just actionable next steps

Results

Results

Results

“Designed a focus-first study planner that reduces overwhelm and helps students start faster, plan realistically, and stay consistent.”

Faster planning, more doing

Reduced planning friction by shifting users from manual scheduling to guided breakdown + one-screen priorities.

Better consistency

Recovery flow helped students return after missed days without feeling “reset to zero.”

Higher confidence and clarity

Users could see what matters most today and why—making studying feel manageable instead of chaotic.
